I meant the highlighted passage (“we can treat each other kinder”) in the sense of a shared social contract that’s gentler and more equitable, which is what I outlined in the previous two stanzas.

As for me, I can write what I choose to, including cusses, to get a point across (such as: “I am so, so over your optimism"). I think when dealing with what we are dealing with, the wrong and the fragile are not owed the civility of my prose.
