“I enjoy being alive.”

That’s what these people should be saying. I’m going to — because I take myself seriously, perhaps too seriously — state my unremarkable opinion here.

“i don’t take myself too seriously” smacks of whimsy (mostly good) at best, apathy most likely, utter lack of self-regard and self-respect at worst.

It’s okay to take yourself and your life seriously. It’s okay to try. It’s okay to feel the negative feelings in your life. In fact, it’s preferred to do ALL of these things.

But I don’t know. I’ve never swiped. Never dated (or tried to date) a man. Maybe I’m off-base. But in my estimation, I feel as though it’s best to have the confidence and awareness to say what you mean, do what you say, have a sense of joy and humor when possible and a sense of gravitas when required.
