Hey! It’s a great question. The answer is both yes and no.

Yes, insofar as it’s vulnerability is a finite resource because time is a finite resource. So, if I spend a lot of time showing up for others who are distant, it takes away from time I could spend showing up for others who are closer.

But also no, because of the reasons I sorta alluded to in the piece: being vulnerable in lower-stakes environments, often, has sorta created a muscle-memory that’s transferable to people who live closer.
