A Fourth of July Note
Nothing is so wrong that it can’t be made right.
I want to talk to you. I encourage you to read to the end. Okay? Okay. I get asked a lot, “So, what do you think?” (You know. About all this.) The truth is, my answer doesn’t matter much. It has been documented over the past 15 years, over my 433 essays on Medium and hundreds of essays at other outlets. You want to know what I think, and what I’ve thought, it’s all there.
Besides, I think the last thing the world needs is another white man sitting at a desk waxing on with “I told you so”. You don’t get points for being right, you get points for doing right. That’s why I’ve written and consulted for a litany of leaders, causes, and organizations focused on equity, justice, prosperity, and sustainability. Not because the money is great — spoiler, it isn’t — but because it’s the right thing to do.
The right thing to do now is to tell you the truth about how we got here, and where we go now.
The American left and right have a common enemy: predatory resource hoarding by the wealthy and powerful, and the absurd lengths they’ll go to to preserve that surplus.
The net-net: If you make it hard for people to make a living, people will fracture into factions and stampede each other for hope and resources, and the “traditional”…
